How celebrities are embracing the kaftan
If you haven't worn a kaftan this summer, then you've been missing out. Although kaftans have never been out of style, they are certainly bang on trend this season and are the perfect way to transition into your autumn wardrobe too with some simple layering. Let's take a look at how fashion icons have been enjoying this luxurious garment.
Kaftans hit the west
Although kaftans traditionally hail from ancient Mesopotamia and are synonymous with Middle Eastern attire, they are also enjoyed by fashionistas in the western world. And it's easy to see why. A kaftan is incredibly luxurious, yet provides comfort too, especially when the temperatures soar. It's not easy to find many other garments that promise these same benefits.
From vibrant patterns, colour blocking or neutral pastels, you’ll find the perfect look when you browse our range of Arabic kaftan dresses. But how are top celebrities wearing their prized garments?
As a modest look, kaftans are a great idea for pregnancy fashion as sported by Bollywood actor and TV show host Neha Duphia who is currently expecting her second child with Angad Bedi. The former Miss Universe finalist wowed fans during her first pregnancy and she’s certainly not put the brakes on this time around. In a recent photo shoot, which she uploaded to her Instagram account, Duphia is seen wearing a stunning nude printed silk kaftan dress with an empire waistline. The neckline is deep with plenty of embroidery, before falling away to wide open sleeves. This is an ideal summertime maternity style, providing plenty of comfort for the mother-to-be and her bump.
Few celebrities gain as much attention as Jennifer Lopez, who is not only looking fabulous at 52, but she’s also recently got back together with old flame, and fellow Hollywood legend, Ben Affleck. In a photo shoot taken from her St Tropez superyacht this summer, the real star of the show was her vibrant printed kaftan, made from cotton and silk. And J-Lo is not alone, with superstars Lady Gaga and Angelina Jolie also being spotted out and about in designer kaftans.
Making a statement
There’s no denying that kaftans make fabulous casualwear, but they can also be dressed up with the right garment and choice of accessories. Comedian Mindy Kaling recently celebrated her birthday wearing a beautiful green shade of kaftan with blue stitching and tassels on it. With green platform heels and her hair swept back, this is a fabulously stylish way to increase the formality of the kaftan.
It may be several decades since Elizabeth Taylor made kaftans stylish in the 70s, but with celebrities like Rihanna and the Olsens falling in love with this fashionable garment too, we can’t see it going out of style anytime soon.
